Coláiste Choilm suffered a heavy defeat in an epic, high scoring basketball clash.
1st Quarter: It was a very quick start to the game with Marist getting an early basket and two free throws on top of that. CC respond well though with baskets of their own from Bourke. Athlone then get the first 3 pointer of the game to take the lead going into the 2nd quarter.
2nd Quarter: After the break Athlone came out strong, dominating the quarter but the CC defence held on strongly holding Athlone off and scoring a few for themselves but it wasn't enough to keep Athlone quite as Marist went on to get 10 points in the second quarter stretching their lead a bit bigger heading into halftime.
3rd Quarter: The 3rd quarter started strongly for Athlone as they claimed early free throws and a basket but continued to follow up as CC started to lose grip on the game. CC only managed 1 basket in the whole quarter as Athlone scored 24 points in 7 minutes. Athlone's number 11 was at the heart of it all for them as he took control and capitalized on every opportunity he got and passed the ball around with ease. The score going into the final quarter CC 16-35 Athlone.
4th Quarter: CC continued to battle on and showed no sign of dropping the head, starting strongly and getting baskets as well as not conceding down their own end. CC started to score consistently and only conceded 3 baskets in the whole quarter. Corcoran, Dempsey and Dunne all got on the score sheet.
Overall, it was a very high scoring game from Athlone, but it didn't reflect how the lads played, they fought to the end even though it looked over and put some nice plays together and will hopefully bounce off this defeat and go into the next game stronger.
Player of the Match: Patrick Corcoran, he was top scorer today but also created lots of chances and his defensive work rate saved CC multiple times. He also knows how to use his strength to push by the opposition and to carry the ball forward.
