On the 1st of December the ISSU invited 4 delegates from our student council to attend the Laois-Offaly Regional Council of Schools meeting. This meeting took place from 6pm-8:30pm via Zoom call. Our 4 delegates Darragh Flynn, Brian Whittaker, Joe Hughes and Brian Connolly all attended this meeting. We were firstly introduced to the Laois-Offaly President Rueban Murray and gave us a general understanding of the ISSU and a breakdown on what we are going to be doing that evening. We then went into 4 separate groups to decide on a motion we would have to debate over, by either agreeing or disagreeing to the motion. I found this debate to be brilliant as it got everyone involved and to work as a collective to come up with our final statement as if why we agreed or disagreed to the motion. Once this was done we started our speeches for anyone who wanted to run for the Laois-Offaly ISSU Regional Officer. Each candidate was given a chance to explain why you should vote for them and we then finally voted our new Regional Officer. Overall this was a beneficial event for both the ISSU and the student councils for all schools, as the ISSU gained information of life under COVID guidelines in schools and we gained information in how we can try implement new ways to improve students time in schools in these difficult times. We would like to thank the ISSU for inviting us to this beneficial meeting.

We hope you are all keeping safe,

King regards,

Student Council.
