LC2 Geography Field Trip

On Thursday 9th October, Ms Cassidy's and Ms Caher’s LC2 geography classes travelled to Kinnity castle to perform experiments on the nearby river in its upper and middle courses as part of their leaving cert exam.

The purpose of this trip was to test the hypothesis that erosion is an active process in the formation of a meander (defined bend) on the middle course of our chosen river. The students are now creating a report of this trip with their evidence and sketches worth 20% of their total leaving cert exam.

The classes conducted experiments the upper and middle courses of the Camcor river, such as cross-section of river width and depth, river velocity, bedload analysis, proof of sinuosity and rivers average gradient.
