Coláiste Choilm U15s fall behind in close League match defeat

Coláiste Choilm - 1

St. Brendan's Community School - 3

By Jakub Skrzecz and Evan Curling

Due to bad weather conditions the venue of the match got changed from home to away for Coláiste Choilm. The first half started with a rapid start from Coláiste Choilm as they pressed the opposition. In the 9th minute St. Brendan’s midfield played a through ball which found their striker for a 1v1 situation. McAndrew nearly saved it but unfortunately the ball landed in the back of the net, putting the Birr side 1-0 up. Coláiste Choilm still had their heads up defending four St. Brendan’s corners in a row, which showed great defensive teamwork.

For the majority of the first half both sides played some good football and the ball went up and down the pitch. Both teams had good chances but were unlucky. In the 30th minute with five minutes left of the half, Coláiste Choilm gave it their all. St. Brendan’s keeper was under pressure. He kicked the ball straight at Daniel Holton. Holton controlled the ball and passed it to Mark Dunne who scored the equaliser, 1-1.

At the start of the 2nd half Coláiste Choilm got stuck in pressing their opponents and having plenty of good shots hitting the woodwork. The Birr side also played well but their attacks were neutralized by Coláiste Choilm’s defence. In the 39th minute the hosts put themselves in front scoring from a corner at the front post, 2-1. Soon after that in the 52nd St. Brendan’s CS scored again to secure a win at 3-1.

Man of The Match - Seamus McGuinness (Coláiste Choilm)

Many players contributed in some way. Everyone played their part and did what the coaches asked them to do. For us, the man of the match was Seamus McGuinness. He ran up and down the pitch for the full match. He made tackles and didn’t let anyone past him. Even as a defender Seamus was supporting the midfield, and his passing was accurate.

Coláiste Choilm: Michael McAndrew (C), Steven Murrihy, Tyler Evans, Cormac Staunton, Seamus McGuinness, Scott Halloran (VC), James McGinley, Charlie Cagehin, Sean Doyle, Daniel Holton.

Used substitutes: Jones for S. Doyle, Stewart for C. Cagehin and Seery for J. McGinley.
