Coláiste Choilm 0-10

Mullingar CBS 3-11

By Luke Boyle and Jack Smiley

Coláiste Choilm faced Mullingar CBS in a gripping hurling encounter in the 1st round of the championship. The game took place on a cold day with wet, long grass that lacked the distinctive sideline markings already making it a challenging game for both sides before the game even started.

Cillian Bourke showcased great defensive skills, playing the sweeper role effectively. A promising start came with a nice score from Aaron Rattigan, but Mullingar CBS secured a lucky goal within the first 10 minutes, followed by a free kick that put them ahead. Unfortunately, several referee decisions were in favour of Mullingar CBS throughout the game.

Eoin Rouse's hard work and David O'Rourke's solid defence kept Coláiste Choilm in the game. Eoin Dunne's beautiful halfway line score and Killian Wynne's crucial free kicks displayed resilience, but Mullingar CBS capitalised on a 45, leading to another goal in the final 10 minutes of the first half. The halftime score was 2-4 to 0-6 in favour of Mullingar CBS.

Eoin Dunne's superb work ethic and standout performance marked him as one of Coláiste Choilm’s strongest players on the day. Substitutes Tadhg Kelly and Jason Donoghue brought tremendous effort. Another great score from Eoin Dunne sparked hope for a comeback, but a well-worked goal from Mullingar CBS solidified their lead and shattered Coláiste Choilm’s hopes of victory.

Frustrations grew as Brian Guinan received a harsh tackle. Despite great build-up play and an excellent score by Killian Wynne, Coláiste Choilm fell short. The team worked hard against harsh conditions and unfortunate referee decisions, but Mullingar CBS's dominance in certain patches secured their victory.

The final score concluded at 3-11 to 0-10, highlighting Mullingar CBS's control in critical moments. Coláiste Choilm's effort was commendable, but they couldn't overcome the challenges, ultimately falling short in this Championship clash.
