Students can study a maximum of 10 subjects for their state examinations. In Coláiste Choilm, students in Junior Cycle follow the following curriculum:
- Religious Education
- English
- Maths
- Irish
- History
- Geography
- Science
- French or Spanish
In addition to the subjects listed above, students have the possibility of studying two of the following elective subjects:
- Visual Art
- Business Studies
- Music
- Technical Graphics
- Materials Technology (Wood)
Wellbeing
Your son’s wellbeing is of central importance to his educational success and overall happiness. To this end Wellbeing will become a core part of your child’s junior cycle experience. From September 2018, students will have 300 hours of timetabled Wellbeing related learning over the course of their 3 years. Over time, this will increase to 400 hours.
Wellbeing includes
- Physical Education (PE)
- Civic, Social and Political Education (CSPE) – including Religious and Sexuality Education (RSE)
- Social, Personal and Health Education (SPHE)
- Guidance
Other Areas of Learning
Students will also have the opportunity to engage with a range of other learning experiences as part of their Junior Cycle programme and these can be recorded on the Junior Cycle Profile of Achievement (JCPA). They could include extracurricular activities such as membership of the school student council or school clubs and societies, participation in school sporting activities, etc.
