Cairde Mentoring Programme

The Cairde Mentoring Programme plays a vital role in supporting students as they make the transition from primary to secondary school at Coláiste Choilm. We recognise that this can be a significant step, and our Cairde system ensures that every 1st Year student feels welcomed, supported and confident from the very beginning of their journey.

On their first day, each incoming student is paired with a dedicated Cairde mentor—a senior student from LC1 (5th Year). These mentors meet regularly with their group, offering guidance, encouragement and a friendly, familiar presence within the school. They help new students settle in, navigate school life and build a sense of belonging within the Coláiste Choilm community.

Being selected as a Cairde mentor is both an honour and a responsibility. It reflects leadership, maturity and a strong commitment to supporting others. The programme not only benefits 1st Year students, but also provides senior students with valuable opportunities to develop leadership, communication and teamwork skills.

Through the Cairde Mentoring Programme, Coláiste Choilm fosters a welcoming and inclusive environment where students are supported, connected and empowered from their very first day.
